Hearty Porridge (Crockpot Overnight)


Ladies, enjoy another one of Christie's hospitality offerings! 

1 cup of steel cut oats 
1 cup of grits*
2 cups diced apples
1 cup dried cranberries
4 cups water
2 cups milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
2 Tbsp butter

Combine all the ingredients, mix well.  Let sit overnight in crockpot on low.  Top with chopped Pecans, slivered almonds and/or shredded coconut. Real recipe calls for 2 cups steel cut oats, do not substitute Rolled Oats it will come out Mushy.  The grits give it a different texture making it more of a porridge than an oatmeal.  Enjoy!
